Program Description

Event Details

Children and adults of all ages will be amazed by the artifacts presented in this program, which belonged to local Indigenous people from the Hartford area 3,000-400 years ago! As part of our Native American Heritage Month programming, we will explore a day in the life of Indigenous peoples in central CT. Miss Lindsay from Nowashe Village will highlight the foodways and material culture of the Woodland Period. Some highlights include: how Indigenous peoples used the natural resources around them, how gender roles were divided, and how they hunted and prepared food. For All Ages.

Nowashe Village in South Windsor is an Indigenous Peoples Museum that maintains some 20,000 artifacts now displayed, preserved, and used for educational purposes by the Friends of Wood Memorial Library & Museum.
