Program Description

Event Details

Even though it’s July, we’re still celebrating PRIDE! BPL, in partnership with the Health Collective and the Lavender Policy Center, is excited to invite you to a special family storytime at 5:30 PM. We'll enjoy children's stories, songs, and crafts with a local drag artist as we celebrate creativity and diversity beyond binaries and stereotypes. We will also have a story available to be read in Spanish! ¡También tendremos una historia disponible para leer en español! We will read stories, share songs, and have plenty of dress-up clothes for kids. We will play, color, sing, dance, and have fun with our families and caregivers. Kids and their grownups are encouraged to come dressed to express their individuality - jammies, princesses, superheroes, whatever makes you YOU. No registration required.

Drag Queen Story Hour (DQSH) is exactly that—drag queens reading stories to children in libraries, schools, and bookstores. DQSH captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models. In these spaces, kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where people can present as they wish.
