Program Description

Event Details

Bloomfield Public Library and Wintonbury Historical Society bring you a presentation by Rick Cochran.

Rick will speak about how he learned more about the Civil War through letters his great-grandparents exchanged while his great-grandmother remained working on the Filley Farm and his great-grandfather fought in the war. There was a chain of good fortune and serendipity that helped him to uncover important facts in Bloomfield and beyond. He spoke with a volunteer at the Wintonbury Historical Society and with Fred Hesketh, Bloomfield’s past Town Historian. Rick also corresponded at length with Caroline Filley Archer, author of Julia and Mr. Kwong: A story of Mutual Acceptance in the 19th Century.

Rick Cochran is a retired teacher, a great storyteller, and the author of True to His Country: A Civil War Novel.
