Program Description

Event Details

Javier spent one mysterious year in Texas before he was adopted. That year became the inspiration for The Probably Untrue History of Javier Lopez, in which his owner (the author) imagines him as the ruler of a kingdom of cats, a professional musician aboard a cruise ship, and a ballroom dancer on a tropical island.

Kids are invited to bring their creativity to this event and work alongside both the author and the illustrator, coming up with ideas of their own—writing and drawing about Javier or their own pets.

And Javier, the little brown dog, just might make a guest appearance.

Registration is appreciated, but not required. Drop-ins of all ages are welcome.

About the author: Teresa Pelham is the author of four children’s books based on her own dogs, all with the goal of promoting animal rescue and literacy. Javier is a Chihuahua and American Eskimo dog mix who enjoys being the center of attention and welcomes belly rubs from kids of all ages.

About the illustrator: Sarah Paolucci is a Bloomfield-based artist, illustrator, and graphic designer with over 20 years of experience drawing and painting dogs. She is known for her custom-painted pet portraits and is a college professor. The Probably Untrue History of Javier Lopez is her first children’s book, where she brings her love of dogs and visual storytelling to the page.
