Program Description

Event Details

The release of the film Hamnet (2025) has sparked a resurgence of interest in William Shakespeare’s play Hamlet. The film (based on the 2020 fictional novel) deals with the death of Shakespeare’s son, Hamnet, inspiring him to write his famous play. However, shortly after Hamnet’s death, Shakespeare's father, John, also dies. So how do these events show up in the play?

To celebrate Shakespeare's birthday, Co-founders and Artistic Associates of Capital Classics Theatre Company, Geoffrey and Laura Sheehan, will present some of the monologues and scenes from Shakespeare’s Hamlet. By analyzing various performances and interpretations, we will gain a better understanding of how the tragedies of Shakespeare’s life inspired one of the greatest written tragedies of all time.
