Social Justice League, assemble! For those of you who are not superhero or comics fans, that’s a play on the Justice League, a group of superheroes from the world of DC Comics. (If you ARE a superhero fan, please forgive the mixing of a well-known Marvel call to action with characters from the DC Universe.) This book club, a group of people who voluntarily come together once a month to discuss a book related to social justice, is also a group of community heroes, doing their part to learn about various marginalized identities in American society and become more empathetic as they navigate the world.
This month, we will not discuss a specific chosen title. Rather, the call is put out to YOU to bring your own resource (BYOR) to share with the group. This could be a book, a film, a TED Talk, a podcast, a TV episode, an article, a song, a piece of art, or a story that taught you something about social justice. You may choose to recount a recent experience in which you took action to make your community a more just and fair place to be. For example, perhaps you attended a protest or demonstration, and you want to tell us what you learned from it.
Whether you have attended SJBC since 2021 or are just joining us for the first time, we are excited to learn from you in this open format.
