Program Description

Event Details

For its November reading, Wintonbury Poetry Series is pleased to announce a commemorative reading to honor Rennie McQuilkin, who passed away on July 3, 2024. Rennie was a major force in the Connecticut poetry scene. He not only founded the popular and long-running Sunken Garden Poetry Series at the Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington and served as Connecticut State Poet Laureate from 2015-2018, but he also published countless poets in his Antrim House Books press and was a friend and mentor to many. He will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched.

To commemorate Rennie, 5 poets will share some memories and read some of their favorite poems written by him: Sherri Bedingfield, Kathy Carle, Marilyn Johnston, Tom Nicotera, and John Stanizzi. Sherri, Kathy, Marilyn, and John also had books published by Rennie.

Please note that this reading will occur on Nov. 14th and not on our usual 3rd Thursday of the month.

We will still have an Open Mic. If people would like to read a favorite Rennie poem, please do, but you're also welcome to read your own.

Teens are welcome to read at the Open Mic!

The Wintonbury Poetry Series and Open Mic are hosted by Sitara Gnanaguru. Questions? Call Mara at 860-243-9721 or email her at mwhitman@libraryconnection.info.
