Event Details
Umberto Giordano(1867-1948) was a less well-known figure in the ‘Giovane Scuola,’ the generation of Italian composers born after the mid-nineteenth century which also included Mascagni, Leoncavallo and Puccini. “Andrea Chenier,” Giordano’s most popular and successful opera, is based on the last days of this eighteenth century poet who was guillotined during the French Revolution. Today, the opera continues to be performed on stages throughout the world.
Jeffrey Engel will play excerpts from the opera and detail the lives of Giordano and Chenier.
We will offer in-person options at Prosser for future Opera Talks when we are able to do so.
