Program Description

Event Details

Today, Tchaikovsky is best known as a composer of instrumental music, ballets, symphonies, concerti, chamber music, etc. It is important not to forget that he found it very important to write operas too. Twelve were  completed during a twenty-two-year period, although two of them were destroyed by him and a third  was a revision of an earlier work.

“Eugene Onegin”, closely based on Pushkin’s verse novel, is the most popular internationally and the most beloved opera in Russia. Jeffrey Engel will discuss the creation of “Onegin” and play excerpts from it.
